Brienza Archives Center

BURGENTINO ARCHIVES CENTER

The Burgentino Archives Project aims to create a single hub for existing archives in or archives linked to Brienza.

Beyond the Municipal Archive and the Parish Archive—one of the richest in Basilicata—Brienza also preserves the Giampietro Family Archive, belonging to a prominent local family that includes two painter friars (authors of the frescoes in the Municipal Hall, formerly the Convent of the Observant Minor Friars), several figures involved in the Italian Risorgimento, Senator Luigi Giampietro, and Domenico Pellegrini Giampietro, Minister of Finance of the Salò Republic.

The project primarily aims to organise and catalogue these archives under the supervision of qualified experts.

At the same time, it seeks to establish a twin collection for Brienza by acquiring copies of relevant documents from the Caracciolo Archive, held at the State Archives in Naples. In addition, the project plans to digitaze the documents to make them available for online consultation.

The final goal is the creation of a real Documentation Centre (Polo), meaning the establishment of a suitable facility that meets all legal standards and includes study rooms for researchers and scholars.
