VENTOTENE

Ventotene Training School: Places, Stories, and Meanings of Political Confinement

From 31 May to 2 June 2025, the association organised a Training School on the island of Ventotene, dedicated to exploring the history and meaning of political confinement. The initiative, promoted in collaboration with the CNR–ISMed, the Department of Political and Social Sciences of the University of Salerno, the Centro Studi sul Confino di Ventotene, and the Forum dei Giovani of Brienza, brought together scholars and young participants for three days of study and discussion in one of the most symbolic places of European democracy.

The association awarded 18 scholarships, 8 of which were reserved for young people from Brienza, to encourage their engagement with Italy’s social and political history. The programme included two itinerant lectures through the island’s most meaningful sites—those that still preserve the memory of exile and resistance—and a classroom session devoted to the Manifesto of Ventotene, the founding text of a united and democratic Europe
